Is the rubber bumper on the spring skirt a rear differential bumper, mine don’t look like that, just wondering.
They may be. They are what came with the car and I never cross checked. I will take another look.
Definitely not the correct bumpers. I have two in my WCCC cart now. Good eyes. Thank you.
I pulled the tower skirt and discovered the coil spring has a bow in it. That cannot be right? There is no load on the suspension. The car is up on blocks. I put the shock skirt back on just to be safe after taking a photo. I also noticed that the spindle is very difficult to turn even with the nuts spun down to the cotter pin holes. Some binding going on somewhere?
I would not worry about it. Likely they are too long if they are new so you will end up having to remove and reinstall them several times after cutting them little by little. What they look like now doesn’t matter, you don’t have all the load on them yet.
They are original. They have been out of the car for about two years. Makes me a little more comfortable hearing that bow is not unusual.
The way I did mine was with the UCA installed already, set the spring perch on the spring off the car with the compressor attached (wccc type), bring the assembly to the car and attach the top of the compressor to the shock tower cap, then compress and keep an eye on the rotation of the perch so it will line up with the UCA holes, and just keep going until the holes line up. Granted it was easier for me because I used the 1" lower springs.
Here’s video evidence if it helps: https://youtu.be/UgxL4xnTTZ4?t=923
Take with a grain of salt as I wasn’t and still am not a real mechanic, I just make videos sometimes.
Blitz, I watched your video many times. Thank you for making it. Your method will not work because the coil and spring perch assembly is too long. I still have to put the spring in the passenger side. I will try removing the tower skirt and see if that gives me more room but I think it will have to go in the same as the other side considering the bow in the spring after all the pressure is relieved. I do prefer the tower skirt on during this operation to direct the charge!
I just went through all this a couple weeks ago.
I put in New upper and lower control arms, new spring perches and a new 1 " lowering spring.I used the same spring compressor for wccc. The driver side went online a piece of cake. The pass side a little more of a pain. I left my upper control arm on, just pushed down as far as it would sit. Then decided to take off the cover for the shock tower to get a better look at the angle of the tightening of th spring. You want the bottom end lined up to set at the stop cause you can’t change it without unwinding the whole thing and starting over.
Then I had to crank it up as much as I could. My holes in the up control arm where about a half an inch off from lining up with the bolts on the perch!
So, when I caught my daughter coming back from the gym I enlisted her. I forced the upper arm over to the right and had her push the bolts down and bam we got her connected. Then just backed her off as undid the lower bolts and fed it up top and out.
Just needing that third hand and not being afraid to muscle it got it done. This was my first time ever doing something like this but am loving having it done.
