Stupid question. A few weeks ago I had replaced the upper and lower control arms on the driver side. The job is not finished yet as there is a few minor things that need be addressed so, it’s just patched up for now. The rubber isolator that went between the spring and shock tower was so brittle it easily broke apart. Want to go with rubber as it is the original material, if I cannot find the rubber type what are the thoughts on urethane?
I don’t think urethane in that location will give you any improved handling. Might add a couple squeaks to the suspension. Buy a sheet of good neoprene rubber. https://www.mcmaster.com/rubber-sheets/
I would be putting extra money towards disc brakes.
All of them are hard plastic and really inexpensive.
I don’t know why. But, I was thinking rubber pads on the spring perches.
I have urethane upper spring insulators. They have been installed for several years and don’t squeak.
After considering the minimal effect these things have beyond spacing the coil spring off the stamped spring tower, I decided the argument is like picking which single malt Scotch to but your Cougar. I chose the inexpensive ones WCCC sells as “rubber,” which is no doubt synthetic something.
Congratulations on doing that front end job yourself! It’s a good feeling, isn’'t it!!
Rubber pads between the spring and spring perch is a service replacement thing. Originals did have them but later NOS/replacements did
I think Jeff meant to say that original perches did not have rubber between the lower perch and the spring. The later NOS D7 p/n ones did.
I had a set of rubber ones disintegrate in only a few years. I when back with polyurethane.

Disk brakes have been suggested to me as they are superior to drums and I do agree. The intention is to try and keep everything as original as possible. Eventually, the plan is to have the knowledge and skill to do concourse level work. As for right now I’m just a deckhand.

It is always a good feeling when something doesn’t explode when you don’t want it to. Jokes aside though, there still is the strut rod to restore and I need drill out the additional 2 holes in the lower control arm for it. Prior to installing the new components I should have took better time to compare them. One learns the most from their failures than from their successes.

Been contemplating on getting new spring perches actually. All the old suspension components will be saved and restored. Are the lower control arms with 4 bolt holes to connect the strut rods unique to the 1967 Cougar or are is this on different model and years across the Ford production line up?
The 67 lower control arm is unique to the 67 because of the mating two piece strut rod. Mustang didn’t get the two piece strut. Only Cougar did and is suppose to make the ride softer. The repo lower arm won’t work unless you also change to the one piece strut rod. If you want to stay correct for 67 rebuild your original lower control arms. otherwise, replace with the 68 lower arm and one piece strut rod.

I may just do that, restore the original arms, as it is one option. Has anyone drilled out the extra holes in the Scott Drake set?
