Anyone here in northern nj / nyc area have a front spring compressor tool that I can buy or rent.
I’m looking for the one that won’t kill me, that goes inside the spring and pulls up from the lower shock perch
Thanks.
John-
Don’t live by you but I needed one I was able to “loan a tool” from Autozone. Very good one from the inside.
Yes, if I can’t find one local, I’ll use the loaner from my auto zone
I had one of those center offset finger type of pullers when I pulled apart my 68 gt in the 90’s It let go and the spring went flying. Luckily I was sitting on the engine when it poped out. it was a cheaper China tool that I picked up at a swap meet so maybe the auto zone loaner is better made.
On e bay there is a compressor that goes threw the shock tower from the top. I think it is a copy of a Ford design. $75. I bought one but have not used it yet but it looks to be well made.
I have the original Brannock tool as shown in the factory shop manual in my toolbox and it’s not going anywhere.
I have used it several times with no problems.
I’ve got the $75 ebay one mentioned above. Listing here:
Very well made and I’ve used it many times.
Bought that exact same tool from Ebay. Money well spent. I got a thrust bearing on top and with a little oil on the threads and thrust bearing it compresses the coil spring with just one arm turning it.
…and turning and turning and turning Especially when cutting off a 1/4 turn of spring at a time to get just the right ride height.
We loan them for free.

At about 15 minutes Andrew shows how to use the tool.
