Comp Cams - Edelbrock Cam

I am having my 69 351W rebuilt. I have an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold on my engine now, along with a Performer cam. I ordered an Edelbrock Performer cam and lifter kit from Summit. Inside the Edelbrock box is a box with Edelbrock lifters and a Comp Cams Camshaft. Cam specs appear to be the same.

My engine builder says Comp Cams are junk, made from inferior material.

Please let me know your opinions.

I’ve used nothing but Comp Cams for the past 40 years or so. Never have had a single problem with any of them in dozens of engines.

Maybe you need a different engine builder.

LOL maybe. We all have our brand loyalties/prejudices.

Thank you Royce.

I’m with Royce. Those Edelbrock cams are a series of 204/214, 214/224, and 224/234 split duration designs that go back at least to the 1986 timeframe, and have been marketed by everyone from Ford Motorsports to Summit or PAW (in extinct times). Cam blanks have not been the culprit in the rumors of recent failure; lifters seem to be. I alternate between Lunati and Comp. If you get a “Custom cam” from a consultant, it will almost always come in a Comp box, drop shipped.

You’re a guy who will break it in right, so I predict no problems.

IMHO The engine builder wants to sell you a cam from his supplier and make his markup.

But thats just me.
