Thought I would share this in case anyone is looking for a great crossmember. I’m running a 408w, lowered and moved back with Ron Morris mounts, an 8qt Canton pan and GW camber lockouts.
The stock crossmember barely cleared the oil pan and none of the aftermarket Boss 302 transam style crossmembers would work with both the oil pan and the camber locks. Since I’ve got the Maeir Racing sub frame connectors and their tubular export/monte Carlo brace, I really wanted to do something to tie it all together.
Recently I was on the vintage mustang forum and came accross this review of the Z Ray Crossmember.
So I bought one of his low profile crossmembers with the jack pad. I installed it yesterday in about an hour and it works perfectly! One of the few aftermarket bits that I have been able to just bolt on and go. Could not be happier with it.
Are there pictures anywhere? I followed the link but did not see anything in the way of pictures (or a link to somewhere else that has some). May be that non-members cannot see some things, dunno. Would be interested in seeing what it looks like/consists of.
P.S. I could not make an aftermarket crossmember work, it put the tail of the trans too low and screwed up the trans/driveshaft angle, not to mention making it impossible for the exhaust to get up into the tunnel and clear the reinforcement plate (because I have a convertible).
I ended up modifying a FMX crossmember and it works awesome (with a TKO-600, that is what you have as well, correct?).
P.P.S. Here’s a pic (and check me out still being able to link to PB, they - knock on wood - still haven’t “worked their magic” on me!):
Here’s a copy of his ad from VMF for those w/o ad blockers
1967-'70 low profile street competition engine crossmember

$239.95 standard model
$259.95 jack pad model
comparison:
This design was pioneered by Ford in 1969 for the Boss 302 program. It improves on the '67-'70 stock engine crossmember by tying into the lower control arm mounting points, resulting in improved rigidity for the unibody lower front frame section. Helps to stiffen the car right at the control arms where it’s needed most. Perfect for cars that alreadty have an export brace and Monte Carlo Bar. Every street and competition high performance '67-'70 Mustang will benefit from this racing front crossmember. Guaranteed to improve steering stability at all speeds.
Features:
No interference issues with oil pan.
Will clear oil pan if using RM lowering engine mounts. Other cross members will not clear
Made from 1.5" steel tubing, same diameter as the stock Ford crossmember, only thicker. Other are relying on smaller 1.375" tubing, or even worse, 1.25" tubing.
Steel tubing thickness: 0.125", stronger than the stock and other aftermarket cross members. Others are using thinner tubing and/or smaller diameter tubing.
USA made with USA steel
Complete with grade 8 bolts & hardened washers
100% money back if not satisfied (not including return shipping)
sold over 300 to Mustang forum members, excellent reviews. 100% satisfaction.
Priced the same or less than the crossmembers sold by CJPP’s, but beefier and better fitting. Unlike those, these crossmembers will fit engines that have been lowered 1/2" with the Ron Morris engine mounts). Will fit most aftermarket oil pans too, such as the vintage Cobra lettered T pan, Avaid road racing pans, Moroso pans, and most Canton oil pan applications
sorry Bill. Your observation about the Mustang site is indeed a sore spot with many of us. So far I don’t have a dedicated web site for the crossmembers. The pictures have already been posted here, thanks to theRTKmn ! !, They are available thru ebay and here are those links:
