Convertible top issues

Group
I was attempting to replace the convertible top cylinders and hoses on my 69 XR7, as they started leaking hydraulic fluid.
In my attempt to remove one of the cylinders, I broke the bracket that it attaches to. Uggg!
My first question is: how do you remove the clevis pin that holds the cylinder to the frame? I saw a Youtube video that showed using a prybar to pull it loose from the retainer, but that’s how I broke the bracket.
Next question is: can the bracket be welded? At first inspection it looks like it may be pot metal, and I have been told you can’t weld pot metal.
Last questions is: if it can’t be welded, is my only option to replace the top frame? This will involve removing the top, frame, and all the other components, which I am guessing will be very expensive.

Thanks in advance.

You will need to find a used one. I would start with John’s Classic Cougars or WCCC

I have a top frame in Tampa for sale

thanks for the responses.
WCCC has one, however they said the one I have can be repaired. I have a welder that will do the repair once I remove that part.
The problem is in removing the assembly. The retainer clip is mounted on the outside (stupid!), and is difficult to access without removing the top.
I have a convertible specialist that says he can take care of this for me. So much for trying to do this myself!
I will post once I have everything in order.

It has been at least 15 years since I replaced the top cylinders, but I don’t recall any problem with removal and replacement. Just be careful when you bleed the system afterwards, which is done by raising and lowering the top. Keep the plug out of the fluid reservoir when bleeding, or the air pressure will blow the plug and fluid out.
