I’m looking at purchasing a 2nd classic car. The rust I found is where the mounting bracket that connects the trunk floor to the frame on the driver and passenger side. Looks like there was a leak in the trunk area at some point. There are two patches inside the trunk where it was repaired in the past but for some reason the mounting bracket rusted again. The rest of the undercarriage is perfect. Any idea the cost to repair this? It’s a 1964 Grand Prix.
How major of a repair is this?
I found the mounts that would be needed to help with this repair. Now the question is how difficult is it to get the old one off and the new one on. Would the body need to be taken off the frame? I have a friend checking with his brother in law who works at a body shop. I need to know this cost before/if I make an offer on this car.
It think it will depend on who is doing the work. One big caution flag is that rust hides in many places you can’t see. I don’t know this particular car or even type of car but what we can see is advanced. This was a substantial piece of steel. In my experience when I find rust like this it is the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Maybe you could get lucky but further investigation could save you from a lot of pain

Thanks for the advice. I found additional rust on bottom of driver side door. I decided not to make an offer. It was a nice looking car but not worth the trouble for a car I never really heard of. I’m including some photos to show its a neat car.
Rest of undercarriage looked like this.
1964 Pontiac Grand Prix
Dash
8 lug wheels
Brake lights are hidden while the reverse lights are prominent on outer portion of bumper.
They are currently asking 18k. I was not near that and didn’t want to low ball them.
Cool car. Love those big Pontiacs. If it’s a 421 tripower then maybe. It certainly looks straight.
Has everything I like to see. Vacuum gauge on console, 64 only fender mounted side mirror, which I did see the control knob for under the dash and a crazy AC system.
They ride soooo great. Gotta love those big bodies, coming AND going.
That would be close to $1000 repair with parts. If they do not make you remove the gas tank.
That trunk might be worse though, 64’s trunk were painted body color, not spatter paint.
