Most of us have seen CatVert, the great transformation of a 68 cougar hardtop to a convertible. It’s a car that clearly should have been manufactured.
But, has anyone tackled a 67-68 cougar fastback? I’d think the transformation would be easier than a convertable, but since I’ve never seen or heard of one, perhaps this is not the case.
So, does anyone know of an example of a 67-68 fastback? (If so, please provide pictures0
I’m hankering to turn my '71 into a fastback, but that’s a few years off yet, not got the facilities to do it at the moment.
Donor Mustangs or Torinos won’t be cheap here in Europe either !
Cool model, quattro… never thought of doing it do a 71-3, but that actually looks really good!
I have yet to see a Cougar fastback actually completed but I think it’s a cool concept… here’s some photoshopped pics I did back in the day to see what it would look like. Proportions may not be exact but pretty close.
The first thing that popped into my mind, looking at Blitz’s photoshop '68 fastback was, an Aston Martin DB5…
Bond: “Who are you?”
Pussy: “My name is Pussy Galore.”
Bond: “I must be dreaming.”
Maybe a fin/spoiler would change that perception.
The '69-'70 looks good with the Sportsroof. Wonder how a '67-8 would look with one.
I like the blue 67. A great looking car that would be a fun build. Costly seeing what Mustang fastbacks are bringing these days. I always like one offs and fantasy what if cars. As Mark would say it takes a real man to cut up a classic. Hawkrod did it twice making his mustang into a Cougar fastback. The second time he cut on the car was to keep his exwife from getting it as part of a divorce settlement. Yikes! That’s a manly decision.

Agree completely. I also think it looks even better on the 71-73 than either of those. The '67/68 fastbacks look very bad to me, probably because the 67/68 design was already perfect and didn’t need any tweaking.
Yeah, it does seem to work better on the 70. I think part of it is that you still have the quarter windows, whereas they are gone on the 67/8 which makes the whole rear of the car look really long. Still, I would like to see either one done in real life just for the uniqueness / coolness factor. A fastback Eliminator would be pretty awesome.
I like the torino style roof better. First, it flows with the top line of the quarter panel better. Second, it reminds me of the upswept quarter windows on mid 80’s Cougars. Lastly, it’s immediately distinguishable from a mustang.
