Cougar for sale in Cave Creek Arizona

I think Bill needs to look at it and tell us how it is.

It may be the picture quality but I don’t see any staples or staple holes in the radiator support for the air dam. Horns are missing. My Gresham Gold '68 xr7 390 4v w/ drum brakes had the 6.5 badge. I didn’t think the GT was used in '68. Not sure I have seen that before. Certainly a keeper. I wonder how early it is. I did have that same air cleaner.

The GT badges were indeed used in 1968 model year. The assembly line workers were really confused on which cars got the radiator core support rubber seal and which cars did not. Lots of mistakes were made.

I am not so sure that I would trust driving this car as it looks like they are just using the factory regular lugnuts to hold the wheel on.

Without knowing where this Cougar was assembled, it’s hard to know if staples or clips would have been ( most likely ) used to attach the radiator core support rubber seal. It has been suggested that when the staple gun jammed during assembly, which I gather was a fairly common occurrence, the default method of attaching the seal was to use the clip ( Ford hardware ) number : 371141-S. Staples were most common on Dearborn vehicles and the clips were found mostly on San Jose assembled cars. Here are two good places to glean information about these clips:

I will try to check it out

Dearborn car, I can almost make out the buck tag numbers.
X code air cleaner and snorkel (or pickup).

It did cross my mind that maybe this is an X code and maybe those didn’t get the radiator core support upper rubber seal to hood?? The second thing that crossed my mind is that the core support was replaced. The buck tag has a strange fastener. Mine was a Dearborn product.

He says in the advertisement it is an S code. I suspect the air cleaner has been replaced- it is not the right one. No Cougar came in 1968 with an air dam. None.

His phone number is on the ad.

I don’t see it. Can you post it? All I get is the email response option. If it is posted there it’s already public and I will delete it here.

That’s not a phone number. That’s the post number. If provided, the phone number would come up as an option when you click the “reply” button.

“Serious buyers only please. The only way I will respond is with your phone number.
Thank you.”

“If serious please leave your phone number and I will get right back with you on all details, that’s the only way I will respond is your phone number. Thank you.”

I did dial that number and get an answer of “How can I help you”. It sounds like a recording and there is no response when you say anything. I will email again. No one in my area recognizes the car so far.

There is no phone number associated with this CL ad. You need to email the seller with YOUR phone number for him to call you back, as clearly stated twice in his posting.

I just don’t understand the confusion involved. Am I the only person who has actually read the CL ad?

I emailed twice and of course included my number.

The good news is that he called me back this morning. He is a very reluctant seller and has several other Cougars and several people who are interested already.

He is very savvy and knows all about scammers and tire kickers. I invited him over to talk Cougars. If anything shapes up I will post more.

Can you explain why? I’m curious what the problem could be using the factory lug nuts, as that is what I am using, also. Thank you
