My brother sent me a picture of his 1967 Cougar that he had during High School. I thought it was neat to see the “classic” photo. Crager SS wheels, door ding side molding, traction bars, tinted windows and a Horse Power Sales license plate on the front to top everything off. At the time in our family my brothers and I drove four first generation Cougars. A white 67, blue 67, black cherry 68 and a yellow 68. Did anyone else have this attraction for Cougars in the family?

Well, I’d always like Cougars since I was a little kid and my first car was a nice red/black '67 standard. My parents liked mine so much they went out and bought another '67 Britany blue/parchment standard that my Mom drove for a couple of years. I sold my '67 and didn’t have another first generation Cougar for about 12 years. I have since had three, including my current ‘68 Augusta Green standard, the keeper which I’ve had since 1993. And my brother had a Grecian Gold/Black’ 68 XR-7 and is now starting the restoration of a Lime Frost/black '67 XR7-G.
Awesome. I love seeing old school pics of cougars. That first picture is perfect. I love the muslce car look. I too have always loved cougars since the first time I saw one. I was maybe 14 or 15 … maybe 13 skating with my buddies in a trailer park and there was a red 67 with a black vynil top parked in the driveway of a trailer. All I could see was the tail lights. I wanted to get closer but didn’t want to look suspicious. Few years later moved in with my mom and step dad who is more into actually working on cars (unlike my dad who just kinda collects them and lets them sit). They had mustangs and we decided to look for a car for me. At first I was looking into mustangs and falcons but after a month of looking decided I wanted neither and started trying to explain to my step dad what the car looked like in the trailer park. I didn’t know what it was called and never saw another after that. It didn’t take him long to guess what the car was. Another month later got extremely lucky and picked up my 67 xr7 for $500. Complete car. Only took an hour to get her running. Drove her around the block, parked it, and started takin her apart. and here I am 7 years later still workin on it:) NEVER GOING TO SELL IT!!!
State of the art for the day: Cragar SS wheels, BFG white lettered tires, Lakewood CHROME slapper bars, Cherry Bomb glasspacks, stick on film tinted glass, and a Craig AM/FM cassette with underdash equalizer.
That would have been my dream Cougar in High School if I could have dreamed that big… Touch higher in back and a touch lower in front, Super Tuner Stereo with speakers cut in all over the interior, glass packs and a 4spd!
I’ll have to see if my sister still has the pic of ‘our’ FirstCat that ‘we’ bought in Aug '76 for $1200. She put up $300, the folks $300, and me $600 plus the labor/parts. '72 standard, 351C-2V/FMX/2.75. AM radio with an underdash FM converter. No real options other than a/c and the full white vinyl top on the 2B bright red paint and white interior. Sharp looking, once I fixed the rotted-out doors in '76. Yeah, four years old, and the bottoms of both doors, lower quarters were gone. Core support and shock towers, too. Radiator was held in by a block of wood from bumper to strut rod crossmember.
