Hi guys,
69 351W,
i have found a large crack in my exhaust manifold ( passenger side) a long crack !
Can cast ion be welded successfully ?
It can but the process is going to be more expensive than finding another used manifold that isn’t cracked. After welding it would be warped so you would have to get it machined too.
They usually get cracked because someone imagines that it needs a gasket. The gasket fails, then the owner tries to tighten the bolts to stop the noisy leak. Then the manifold cracks and needs replacement.
On my 69 Eliminator 351w, the left exhaust manifold with the correct date code was cracked. I sent it out to be welded. The price was double what he had mentioned. Appearance wasn’t great, but I did mention I would be painting the manifold with hi-temp cast iron grey from POR 15. It has not been installed yet. Before installation it will need to be resurfaced for a flat even plane. On the phone with the guy I had a suspicion of the above outcome because he touted himself as the best and nobody else knows how to weld cast iron. If you look in Hemmings you’ll probably find the ad for cast iron welding. Hopefully, this manifold won’t be a problem later on.
If date codes don’t matter, it is cheaper to find a good used.
another used manifold will be hard to find,
i expect i will end up with headers unfortunatly.
Currently there are two pair on eBay. That’s low, usually there are more.

Thank for looking for me, but i wounder why it does show up in my search ?
perhaps because the seller doesn’t send international…?
also $300usd = $426nz + shipping costs ?
i can get headers here for approx $600nz
The left (driver side) broke? You can pick those up for $25 as they almost never fail. The PS is the weak link.
Hi Don,
I saw your link and its just what i need but i nearly chocked on the price plus shipping cost.
Are you able to do something for me ??
