Decal for 351 Windsor 4v air cleaner

Hi Everyone
I see there is a silver and black and a gold and black 351 4v decal for the 1969 air cleaner. Does anyone know which color is correct? I appreciate any help. Thanks!

It’s a 2V but identical to the 4V except the number change, and they are silver/black.

I’m using a reproduction from WCCC since I am swapping the 2V for a 4V.

Thanks for the help!

West Coast Classics is currently out of stock on these. NPD’s website has an error trying to find them. I’ve been using the same one on my 70 351C-4V. It now appears that in 70 they started using the Ford Premium fuel 351-4V decal. Anybody able to confirm that?

This is a repro, but exactly matches what came on my Dec 69 built 70 351C 4V:

Here was the original:

You will also encounter decals for the air cleaner top that say “351 4V High Performance” and those have been sold since the 1970’s so some look pretty old nowdays. The silver ones are original style.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks!

Thanks Calicat, That’s what I’ve been using on my 70 351C-4V, but WCCC is listing the red Ford Premium Fuel decal. I’ll stick with the Mercury one. I know my first Cougar (bought new in March of 70) had the silver Mercury one but it was a 351C-2V.

Is interesting your original decal does not have a part number in the lower right corner like the repro.

Hmm, you are right. I guess the two aren’t identical after all.

This is a highly blowen up picture of the original air cleaner lid on the 1971 XR-7 I had. It had the silver Mercury 351 2V decal. It is a very late 71 build date.

Gold was used around the “Mercury” on Montego’s in 1968.
It is plausible that the gold color differentiation was also used in 1969? This is from Bob Mannel’s book, Mustang and Ford Small Block V-8’s 1962-69. Page 8-29.

A sharpie can fix that…
