I have the decor package on my 67 and its showing its age. The padded window-lace is sagging and the padded inserts on the console the vinyl is separating from the pad. I wondering what type of adhesive to use on the pads. My guess is contact cement. Does anyone has a fix for sagging window treatment. Has anyone dismantled these to see how they are put together? My wife does costumes/props for various shows and acts even athletic mascots. So this shouldn’t be that far out there. Just don’t want to start a project with out a clue.
If I installed the standard window-lace until I get this corrected how bad would that look?
IMO the regular windlace looks horrid. You end up with a gap up by the windshield pillar pads, and the regular windlace don’t fill the holes in the rear seat side panels. Don’t know that I have ever heard anyone say they are sagging. They do usually shrink though and end up being short for the opening. I’m sure you could find someone with a decent set and the dye from NPD works really good for re-coloring them. Thats what I did for my car. I made a black set light ivy.
On the console pads I actually fixed my 4-speed one that was separating from the metal by stitching from side to side through that little bit that folds around the metal. I used a heavy fishing line and a curved needle. After I got it stitched up I covered all the line and stitch holes with a thin coat of vinyl adhesive. I got it warm over the heat vent in the house first before I did it do the vinyl was pliable enough. Its held up for a few years already. Keeping my eye out for a better pad someday.
I was afraid there would be large gaps if i changed to the regular windlace. I will find a picture of the droop and post it. Its the passenger door so I see it all the time. I took a picture of my nephew in the car and you see this blob hanging down. It makes me cringe.I would not have thought you could get a light color on black but it looks good. I have more options now, Thanks!
Nice work on the console. I think I will pull my console and work on it through the winter. Its going to freeze here tomorrow so vinyl work will definitely be inside. If it doesn’t turn out well I will get with the prop guys and see if they fabricate one for me on trade.
The decor windlace is worth saving.I turned mine from ivy to black. I tried to stretch mine as best as can but its shrunk pretty far so I think I might still have a gap on the rear panels. I have a couple ideas to section another piece to fill it up You may have to take it off and pinch it tighter to hold on to the body edge tighter to keep it from sagging. It is also held in by two screws so maybe your missing one?
I decided not to post the picture after seeing an ocean of waves in my headliner. It is blue after all. But it tells me that the headliner was redone and the windlace was just installed improperly. Add that to my list; seat cover, console, windlace, headliner and vinyl top. That should be good for this winter’s interior work.
