Delayed start when warm

1970 w/351C & FMX (battery year old, starter solenoid & ignition switch (wiring) replaced 2 years ago). No electrical issue with a cold start (in my garage)

After driving for awhile (30+ minutes) and stopping (outdoors) for a few minutes, it takes some time to get started. When I turn the key through the cycle, the dash warning lights/radio come on, but when I turn the key to the START position, nothing happens. No clicking, no whirring of the starter, nothing. A couple of times, holding the key in this position for a couple of seconds will eventually get the starter and engine going. The last time it happened, even holding it for 5+ seconds, nothing happened. After several attempts, it started. When I got home and pulled into my garage, I turned it off and then started it right up without any of the ‘delay’ behavior.

Any thoughts on diagnosis or repair?
