The metal panel between the trunk lid and the convertible top has numerous rust-through areas. I finally found a replacement piece to weld in as a replacement.
My question is, how is the convertible top attached to this portion of the car and how do you take it loose? Eventually the top will need to be replaced, but would like to keep from burning holes through the top at this point.
This is on a 72 XR7
Thanks
The top is stapled to a tack strip that bolts to the back of the drip channel. With the top up, crawl into the back seat and remove those bolts. Then carefully lower the top and remove the bolts holding the frame to the car. At that point you can then lift the whole top assembly up and out. It’s heavy so have a buddy ready to assist.
Ck out the WCCC video on replacing the top on my 71, don’t remember how clear it is but Andrew did an amazing job documenting the process with a professional installer.
