Yesterday brought the news that the body shop where my beloved 67 standard model was undergoing extensive rust repair and long awaited repaint had burned to the ground taking my lifetime dream car with it.
Sorry to hear about your & others loss.
Hopefully you had insurance to cover any loss and you will be fine after dealing with the insurance company.
So sorry to hear about that. These hunks of metal can hold on to a part of your soul. Mine makes me feel more alive and holds tons of memories. You will still have those memories and a chance to make new ones if like Royce mentioned youâre well insured
That sucks. Hope that insurance makes you financially whole. Maybe you can use this to find a notch or two better car to get back some of the time you had invested in the old one.
Thanks to all for the reassurance and encouragement. Yes I had abundant insurance and should be made financially whole. Problem now is deciding whether or not I want to embark on pursuing a replacement. It took me years to find this one. Iâll be 70 yo this May and wonder how much longer Iâll be able to drive let alone kicking off a restoration project. Then thereâs the storage unit filled with premium parts that were awaiting the final assembly phase. Again, thank you Classic Cougar Community for your sympathies.
Buy one already finishedâŚ
70 years youngâŚmy dad is almost 80 and still owes me a paint job, I havenât let him off the hook yet!
he was painting about 2 yrs ago , and I mean bodywork and paint.
Sorry about your loss. As long as youâre covered financially, it can be replaced. Itâs a buyers market for cars like that, maybe you can find one done to your liking and youâll miss out on all the bills $$$ that were coming on that one.
I say go out and buy the best Cougar you can afford with the insurance money, and use as many of the stashed premium parts on the new Cougar, sell the rest and enjoy the ride!
Leaning that way kb. Yep, I think weâre all pretty much on the same page. Hopefully âthe oneâ will become available in the not too distant future. I will certainly continue to hang out here in the meantime!
Such a bummer but maybe it will lead to something you will love and cherish. As far as age goes, check Ellen Langerâs work outâŚ,pretty insightfulâŚno better portal to feeling younger than a classic car imo.
sorry to hear that, but glad you were insured, still sucks though ![]()
Sorry to hear that. Stay encouraged and looking forward to that replacement. You have many summer cruises and car show you need to attend in the future. ![]()
That would be my worst nightmare.. Iâm sorry to hear your lose.. Has to be very heart wrenching with all the time and work you spent on it.. Really hope you can bring yourself to get back into it..
I have a friend here in FLA that is still driving at 93. Get the car. You have at least 23 years to go!
My mother-in-law is 92 and she just passed her annual driving test. Drives better than most people around where she lives
The same thing happened to me, i lost my â69
I remember reading your post. Back a couple years ago right? Sucks
I feel your pain, my cougar was in a garage fire back in 99. I was fortunate enough to save it from certain demise by not allowing the insurance to take it and crush it.
For those not aware. Hagerty does offer an âunder constructionâ insurance for this type of loss.
