Harness, for power windows? A seller on EBay found a 1970 drivers door harness complete that looks exactly like what I need. But he says it’s an XR7 part. What would that difference be?
Most likely added wires for door ajar switch or other options that was offered with the xr7 selection for that year.
The factory may have used that harness for both standard and XR-7 models. If there are extra wires I don’t see a problem.
He’s going to get some extra shots of the harness, I think it is just what I need- I’ll post some pictures, if I Can swing the deal.
The XR7 harness will have the wiring for the door courtesy light and for the door ajar switch. A standard Cougar may or may not have those 2 options. If they are not needed in a standard Cougar you just simply tape the loose ends up against the rest of the harness and forget them as you will not have a place under the dash to plug them in. One other option you need to think about would be if you need the factory plug for a door radio speaker. That was a separate option that may or may not be on the harness the ebay seller has. Just an FYI.

My 70 XR7 power window door harness has wires and plugs for the stereo speaker even without that option. So the same as for the door ajar and courtesy light options, the wires and connectors are there if needed, and can just be left disconnected if not.
Before installing, you might need to snap open the power window connector body and crimp the barrel connector pins tighter so they grip the posts on the window switch better.
I believe the door harnesses for the 70 xr7 has two versions, early and late build as far as the power window switch connectors go. Maybe someone else can chime in to confirm or correct me.
I believe the power window switches changed mid-year, so that would make sense…
well, I bought the parts, he made me a deal for driver and passenger side harnesses. I’ll post some pictures when I get them-
