on the rear door window stop , there is a felt guide (stabalizer) that rides on the glass . mine is rock hard and is starting to scratch the glass . does anyone know if this felt can be bought separately , and what is it called ? i looked on the internet and the whole stop for sale . the only problem is the felt on the used ones doesn’t look to be in that gooda shape .
I looked all over the internet for what some Mustang or Cougar owners ( 1969 / 1970 ) might have done to refurbish or replace these felts, and I only found one reference ( and no images - which is a shame ).
Here’s the link:
It looks like the metal retainer for the felt is swedged to the bracket. I’d be inclined to carefully drill out ( from the backside ) the retainer, so it would be easier to work on it. You should be able to scrape out the felt and replace it with a section of the felt that is used under furniture to protect it on your hardwood floor. Here’s what I’d use ( from Amazon or Etsy ):
The reason you might want to remove the channel retainer, is that you’d have to use a metal nail file, or something similar to press / squish the felt under the rolled edge of the retainer - to ensure it stays put ( even if it does come with a self-adhesive backing ). It appears this felt comes in 1/2 and 1" width, and from the 69stang.com link the channel is 3/4" - so you might have to buy the 1" wide style and ‘cut-to-fit’. As to the thickness, I’ve seen everything from 1/8" to 1/2" thick. So depending what the felt thickness is found to be ( when you remove it ), hopefully you are able to locate the appropriate dimension.
Let us know what you do, and include some images of your ‘fix’ - it will be invaluable to other members !
i’ll pull my strip apart tomorrow to see what it looks like . thanks for the input . ill let you how it works out.
I use beltline W/X .It is almost a exact replacement. Drill out old rivets & drill new ones. Rivet back on.I also use a piece of fuel line hose split & put over the old rubber “dip”. Ill get pic & post them.
could you tell me who makes it and where i could purchase it ?
thank you for your time

what do we do , send you my stop plate and you install the stabilizer ?
do you sell sell the felt strip alone ?
I have extra orig stops, so best to just purchase outright. Im thinkin $50 a pair, 30 each? Sound fair?
The piece in pics is all i have left. Would like to save for future needs BTW, I media pieces, remove old dip, and then redip in Plasticcoat a few times, then rivet w/x on.
$50 is fair . thats for a right and left side ? rite
