Hi,
I’ve got a problem with my door handle button.
I’ve got the door card off and everything seems ok. The interior door release works fine and I can see the control rods doing their job just fine. However when the exterior button is pressed nothing happens. If I pull on the internal rod the door catch opens. It seems to be connected correctly. The problem seems to be between the button and the top of the rod especially since when I waggle the rod there is no movement of the button on the outside.
I’'m wondering if I need one of these? http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/c60z-6222454-b.html?attribs=87
A slight complication is that I’m not as physically able as I used to be so I’ll probably have to use a body shop to sort it out but I’d like to have the parts and a solution before this happens,
Thanks
My door handle button was working, but then stopped working. The interior door released continued to work fine. Turns out that the rod that goes from the door handle button to the actual latch release needed to be adjusted. The bottom of that rod is threaded. It is held to the latch by a small clip. If you release the clip, you can pull the rod out of the latch, then rotate the connector thingy to essentially increase the length of the rod from the button to the latch, then reattach it and flip the retaining clip back into place. You can test it without having to open and close the door. Just push the latch on the outside of the door as if you had closed it, then test your adjustment by pushing the external door release button.
Thanks, to be honest I’ve not had a look since. The card and all the bits are in the trunk at the moment but I think this information is well worth investigating further.
Thanks.
It’s a lovely Spring day here in the UK so I got the Cougar out and adjusted the rod and everything is fine.I also took the opportunity to check the door lights wiring and sorted that as well.
Thanks!
