Door Panels

Hey, guys! It’s been a while and a few $1000 since I have posted, but I need some help again. For my 1967 XR7, what is the trick to taking off the door panels without damaging anything? Also, where are all the screws hidden? I’m trying to remove the old and install new beltline weather stripping and it is proving to be a true pain in the rear.

Thanks so much!

This is how I removed the door panels from my 67 Standard

\

  1. remove 2 phillips screws at the top left and top right of the door panel
  2. Remove phillips screw holding window crank on door panel and remove window crank
  3. Remove phillips screw holding door handle and remove handle
  4. remove 2 3/8" bolts holding the arm rest on the door and remove arm rest
  5. Using a Interior panel remover with a V notch, start at the rear bottom of the door and remove the clips. Note you can pull back slightly on the door panel and see a foam backing that encases the clip. There are X number of clips on the bottom of the door. Push the handle of the remover towards the door to pry the panel clips out of the door.
  6. Remove the 2 clips on the outer portion of the door. Be careful as the weather shield will be in here as well. I had to push the tool in until the V was at the door
  7. Remove the 1 clip in the front edge of the door
  8. Pull the bottom of the panel away from the door and push up on the panel to disengage the top from the door frame.
  9. Disconnect the 2 wires at the base of the door for the door light
  10. On the Drivers side, remove the remote mirror bezel and disconnect the remote mirror mechanism from the panel.
  11. The panel can now be removed completely from the vehicle.
  12. Using a putty knife, carefully remove the watershield from the door.

Hope this helps.

Following.

So, how do I remove the bolt cover plugs on the door armrest without damaging them? They seem to be well stuck in there.

Here is a link to the other site that provides two options to get the plugs off.

Hello BamaExile from a fellow Alabamian from many years ago. In replacing my armrests, I just got a 3/8 socket about 2 inches long and it worked fine.

(Sorry for the previous response if it got through. I thought you were talking about the bolts themselves.)
