Door wire harness intermittent

Have many of you had intermittent door courtesy lights on XR-7’s? The lamp wire is the smallest one in the door harness, and mine is intermittent inside the rubber boot from door to A pillar on both sides. My power window and door ajar wires all seem fine, and the ground wire is too. So I am going to try routing lamp power through the stereo speaker wires since my car only has AM radio anyway. Hoping those wires are intact. If not, I guess the harnesses will both need to go visit Midlife for rework inside the rubber boot.

How do you know it is intermittent within the boot? There are not connectors inside the boot only on the door and passenger compartment side.

This should be a black/blue wire, yes? Have you checked continuity between (say) the door jamb pin and the connector going to the door? From that point to within the door? Over the years, I’ve found that this wire (and the green/yellow power wire) fail continuity checks about 40% of the time. I usually can solve it by straightening and tugging vigorously on the wire as it goes into the molded connector.

Yup, it’s the black/blue wire. I can make the door courtesy lights flicker on and off by pinching the wire harness within the rubber boot. If I get just the right place, it takes only a slight touch to open/close the connection. I just assumed the door opening/closing over 50 years had opened the wire. But I think the connector you are talking about us right on the a-pillar side of the boot. So I’ll sure try your fix in case it’s the connector. Thanks!
