My cable doesn’t work and the glass just flops loose so decided to try to fix, opened up the back to find two of the 3 cables disconnected but can’t see how to get in between the glass and housing? I’m sure someone here has dealt with this and might offer instruction?
The cables just pass through the chrome housing. They are attached to the back side of the glass. You will need to remove the glass to see if you can reattach the cables. Push either the right or left side of the glass in as far as you can then look in behind the glass. You should see a screw that is used to attach the glass to the housing. Then push the glass the oposite way and find the second screw.

Hey thanks for the reply, I have looked for fasteners inside, the 2nd pic is what I could see inside the mirror, but I will go look again. Appreciate the help.
Took another look but no sign of any screws, the only thing that’s holding the part with the glass to the mirror frame is the 3rd cable.
I have watched youtube videos where they soaked mirrors upside diwn in gasoline to get the adhesive to separate from the glass but it wasn’t this type if mirror, in another the guy pried the edges of the mirror holder away from the glass. Not sure if either would be a good/ bad idea here?
Sorry, my mistake on the screws. That is how the sport style mirror is held together. You have the chrome style mirror. First mark each cable so that you will be able to put it back in the same location. What you will have to do is to VERY gently pry open the crimp that is holding the one last cable in place open a little. Just enough to allow the cable to slide through the crimp. If the 2 broken cables will not slide through their crimps you will also need to open those enough for them to slide through. Once the remaining cable can slide through the glass it should be able to be pulled away from the housing. Now the fun part will be trying to reattach the broken cables. I am not sure how you can do that. But if you do figure that out then once you push the glass back into place just recrimp each cable in place.

Ok thanks, I’ll give that a try, am also considering switching to a sport remote mirror, do you know whether the existing cables can be used with those?
Everything randy said.
On my 69 Drivers side mirror I used Pipe Solder (not electronics solder) and a Torch to melt a Glob onto the end of the Cable so it would hold in the crimps. The Crimps at the mirror are very delicate, basically lead also, move slowly with patience you get one shot at it.
Will do, what’s the best tool to pry the crimps open with?
Do you whether I can replace the mirror with a sport and use the existing cables?
If you go to a sport mirror buy a complete one with the cables all intact and working. Also be sure that you buy a 70 mirror. The 69 mirror uses a different control knob and it will not work correctly on a 70 door panel.

Thanks again
what’s the best tool to pry the crimps open with?
I used a pointed Awl to gently spread the crimps.
