Anything special about a Home Office Reserve car (DSO 84)? Found an old door tag I thought was from my very first cougar, but after checking the data tag info, its not. Here’s the full numbers
9F91H547896 Body 65A, Color M, Trim 1G, Date 07B, DSO 84, Axel 6 & Trans X
You should report the vin to the Cougar data base. Like Neal said it depends on what the purpose of the DSO84 was and the only way to know is a Marti report. Could be a number of things like employee lease, engineering, executive purchase etc… or a vendor lease like Jody and went to Philco.
My XR7-G is a DSO 84 and went to the Los Angles Lincoln Mercury sale office in Pico-Rivera CA as a pool car.
It’s a classy car, such as a Cougar XR-7G, purchased so as to look good when arriving at public places, such as pools, banquet halls, theatre events, etc.
Brian what is a “pool car”? I’ve never heard that term before.
Sold to the sales office and not just one person . So, all of the salesman at the L-M office could sign out the Cougar and use it. They would drive it to the different dealerships/events in the region to promote the XR7 G package ( I’m sure it was taken home some on the weekends as well). Basically, to let the dealerships get to see and drive the XR7 G so they would order some to sell. What I don’t totally understand is the dates. My XR7 G was built on 3/21/68 and released on 6/03/68. So, did the sales office get the Cougar right after the build date and release it to sell on the 6/03/68 date? Or, did Mercury not release the Cougar to the sales office until 6/03/68? Or is the 3/21/68 build date is when it left the Dearborn plant and the 6/03/68 released date is when it left A.O Smith after the G conversion and then shipped to the sales office? Never understood the dates for sure. Either way they didn’t use it much as the 69 Cougar Models would have been out in August which I’m sure is one of the reason why the G has such low miles.
Every sunroof car I’ve seen a Marti on has about a month delay between the build date and the released date which accounts for the time when it left the factory and went to ASC to have the sunroof installed. I would say that the extra time on your invoice is for both the sunroof installation and the G conversion.
Wow, that’s interesting. I don’t have or never did physically have the car. Probably got the door tag with a bunch of parts long time ago. May just order the report just to satisfy my own curiosity. Will post again if I get the info.
The DSO 84 “Home Office Reserve” typically is used for employee lease or purchase plans such as the Philco employee car noted in the other reply. You can get a Marti Report, highly recommended because that is a great source of information no matter the DSO.
My '73 Mercury Marquis Brougham has a DSO of 84, and was sold to Ford Leasing in Dearborn, MI. However, it’s a California car (equipped with CA Emissions package). So, clearly, the end user of the car was out here.
The guy I purchased it from in CO in 2003 told me, but I cannot confirm, that it was leased to the State of California as a car for the governor’s motorcade. It is all black, though, so that could be true. A mystery, for certain.
