Accentuate the positive: This is probably the first time I nailed the correct category for my discourse.
and the negative?: Just finished front and rear motor mounts, tales of such in Restoration/Repair. Read the shop manual insights on front mount replacement just to be a good boy. Interesting note there to unbolt the fan shroud (not sure I would have thought of that!); but, no worries - I don’t have a fan shroud, don’t even have to pop the hood to look. Had a dickens of a time lifting the driver’s side of the engine to remove the mount - just couldn’t get enough lift to get the mount out. Somewhat exasperated I opted to just leave it and do the passenger side at least. Didn’t have tons of space, but was able to finagle it out and get the new one in. With my success I gained new resolve to get the driver’s side done, forced the lift until I could just manage to pop it out. Sheesh! Don’t remember ever having had such a time with motor mounts - maybe just been too long.
Sitting back last night and reviewing the days progresses, all of a sudden a prior event came to mind. When I bought the car it had a tiny little air filter element in the open style cleaner; maybe about an inch tall. I went through the manufacturers listings and found the correct diameter STP filter that gave me 1 7/8” tall breather - maximum height for my measured hood clearance; can you see where this is going. Went outside first thing this morning and popped the hood; sure ‘nuf, two little pock marks in the hood show exactly where I jacked the air cleaner right into the hood. I guess I can just put in a scoop now and cover my sins.
