After the metro cruise show I got some info to share. John Baumann and Dan Pfeiffer said the 1969 Eliminator Dyno Don car he sponsored is being restored in Maryland at a guys shop that does Cougars along with other brand cars. Do you east coasters know who this is? I can’t recall his name, but think it was Rick. John said he does business with him “a lot” and they have traded/bought Cougars from each other. I don’t know the full details with Ed Meyer owning the car as I figured Ed would do the restoration. Had me a little confussed so I didn’t pry to much on the info.
Dan pointed this out which I never noticed. If you look at the Dyno Don Eliminator Cougar they spelled Pfeiffer wrong “Pfieffer”. They are going to spell it the same wrong way for the restoration.
Dan said he loss big money sponsoring Don. A long with the sponsor deal he provided a 1969 Colony park station wagon for Don and his crew to use during that racing season. At the end the wagon was to be return to Dan. He got a call late one night from Texas highway patrol that the wagon with his dealer plate on it was upside down in the highway median. He never got the wagon back and doesn’t know who or what happened with the crashed wagon. Most likely one of Don’s crew members wrecked it.
I did talk with Ed a little at this years Carlisle Ford show. he did mention that he was looking to get moving on the restoration however he did not mention who would be doing the work. I cannot think of a MD shop, but I am sure that there are many. Perhaps they confused the shop for KTL in VA. Tom (of KTL) has a brother Rich. As I recall Janet’s, I think she goes by C9WYBoss, husbands name is Rick but I have no idea what he does for a living. They are in either MD or VA as I recall. Sorry I could not be of more help. Perhaps this will jar someone else’s memory.
The Schartman car is in a rebuilding process right know by Douglas Herzog, Warrenton, Missouri.
Claiming its the true one, owned since 1974.
Posting on Facebook in the “Eddie Schartman Super Stock Boss 429 Cougar” page.
Here"s a pic from the builders Facebook pg of what I’m assuming is the remains of the “Fast Eddie” car! I didn’t ask but I also assume it’s in the builders possession. I would hope there’s a VIN in there somewhere! Not that a VIN from either of these cars at this point means all that much anyway, it’s more or less a rebuild that will capture the “spirit” of these two cars and not be campaigned as the real deal…IMO!
The bodyman/painter is Frank Redmond I believe! Apparently there has been a screw up with the yellow paint that was supplied(not enough yellow, to much blue)
I believe that you will find that this is an old photo. In talking with Ed Meyer he told me that he has been at Herzog’s place and saw what was left of the car. It was only one or two body panels. Herzog has said that the main body was all twisted out of shape from years of racing and had been scrapped years ago. In my opinion having a piece with the correct VIN on it for the rebuild/restore would add greatly to the cash value of either one of the B9 cars. Both of the original VINs have been known for years. Without the VIN all the car can be called would be a tribute/clone/recreation/etc and as such it would not have as much value as the actual car.
Looks like it will be at the MCCN show in Chicago.
I am very pleased to announce that Mr. Meyer will be joining us with the Nicholson Boss 429 Cougar for the upcoming Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, November 23-24 in Rosemont, (greater Chicago), Illinois.
This is just one more reason to join us in a few weeks. We are also featuring Shelby 427 Cobra CSX 3002, the “Flip-top” 427 Cobra, an incredible Ford Performance display, featuring cars and some mind blowing parts and memorabilia along with Barrie Poole and TWO of his original drag cars, (the Cougar and the Comet wagon), the Shelby Snakepit, the unveiling of a freshly restored 1964 Comet/Cyclone and more Ford and Mercury products than we have ever had in our previous four shows.
According to Mr. Meyer over at the SAAC forum, his Don Nicholson Boss 429 is going to be at the show in a rolling but unrestored state.
It sounds like it has not been painted yet, as Ed is still trying to decide how to finish the car: As it was delivered to “Dyno” - a white, stock 1969 cougar with boss 429 drivetrain or as Don modified it to race: Candy red color with orange ELIMINATOR stripes and fiberglass doors, dash, fenders, hood, bumper, valance etc. Don also installed unique lexan glass and of course the SOHC drivetrain.

Yesterday I received my March 2014 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines. Inside is coverage on the MCACN show and there is one photo of Ed Meyer’s Boss 429 Cougar included, page #36. The car is painted red and has some of the sponsership decals on it. Hopefully they will do a feature on it in the future.
