I’m really tempted by WCCCs offer on the gen 1 conversion kit, especially with 30% off
The only problem is that they only have the used motor version left for a 69.
Has anyone got one and what are they like? I’m a bit worried that after spending all that money and shipping it across the Atlantic, it doesn’t last like a rebuilt motor would.
I don’t use the headlights much but there is a leak and they do open when left .
Our '68 Cougar has one of the early conversion kits and I did have a motor go out but we were able to use the label information on the motor to source a new replacement. I don’t know what specific differences there are from '68 to '69, but the kit was well worth it to me and, except for the one failure, it’s been working perfectly for over 4 years now.
The old style motors will be serviced for years to come. But if want a slower look, then wait for the newer version, or CATHEADLIGHTS.com can build you a kit using the gen I motor so you can adjust the speed. B/C vacuum sucks. Pun intended.
The motors rarely burn out, usually you can just open them up and service them easily if moisture or dirt get inside, we sell the used motors much more often than the reconditioned motors.
I have had a kit with the used Probe motors for 4 years. No issues after some simple adjustments. Cleaning up the vacuum leaks from the old system by going electric improved engine performance. I wouldn’t be concerned on the motor change gen 1 to gen 2 is likely an availability issue rather than a mechanical problem. IMO a good update if you like to drive your Cougar.
Mine have been running since Bruce Habel did the write up on TCCN.( Thank you Steve Eitzen and Gary Weisenberger)
Only things I’ve changed are; installed RCCI relays system on 68, and installed the speed control relay version on the 69 (Only controlled in one direction). These replaced the single changeover relay I was using
Both cars have been in tropical rainstorms without any issues to the motors. I used Toyota and Mazda motors but they are all the same (Probe is Mazda/Ford anyway)
Like Bill said, it would be nice to have slower opening and closing speed
Thanks for the replys guys.
Just watching the instillation video I might replace my headlight switch as the dimmer facility on my dashboard is a bit hit and miss and often takes a bit of jiggling to work
I can getup away with a cheaper 67 one?
Do I need to buy a new support for it as a 69 won’t fit?
Been tempted by the sale too but Xmas has cougar funds low and I think I wanna try the second gen stuff anyway.
The current stuff looks nice and works well from what I have seen. Only negative I would say is the speed and how they seem to forcefully open and close the doors
I think we have one kit that was missing a piece or two that we will be making whole in the next few days, check back with us as we might be able to squeeze one more kid out the door for you.
Thank you guys for the support, this is our 30th year and despite us being down in staff by four people it has been our best year ever for sales and that is much because of your loyalty!
