Eliminator Downunder

Thanks Mike, yes I do have an Elite Marti Report.
Ive sent Dave W a quick email so we’ll see what turns up
Cheers

I had one of them when I saw the XA. Awesome. I like the different blackouts on the bonnet, too. What drove hat decision?

Good to see another Aussie on the forum, Brett. I can’t wait to see the car when finished.

The bonnet idea came from the ‘Mcleod Ford’ dealer cars that had stripes and different trims fitted to offer something unique for their customers. The original bonnet was just yellow but had the stripes on when I bought it.
The motor has just been finished for the XA as well, so happy about that.

Used to live two doors down from Max McLeod in 1970’s. He would bring some interesting stuff home

Horn cars are cool … http://www.aus-ford-uk.co.uk/html/spoilers_-_horn_cars.html

Thanks for posting the link to Sandys site, there sure were some crazeee “Horn” cars made.
The strip down of mine continues. Its a pretty easy job for me just pulling things apart, as the real talent is getting them back together :problem:
Rust wise, the floors behind the front seats are shot but im hoping I can get away just with panels for these without doing whole floorpan.
The good news is that my car is on the Eliminator registry and it is most likely one of the HERTZ ordered cars.
The speedo gear, sunroof combo and options is a bit of a giveaway.
Im tracing some of the past owners history as well atm so might have something to say about that later.
The numbers on the block, buck tag and dash plate are all matching but I havnt found where the last 2 photos (sent from the previous owner) are located as yet?
I havnt had the guards off yet either, but from other pics Ive been sent the plenums look good.

On 68 cars, there was a number stamped on the left rear frame rail, behind the wheel. Not sure if the 70 would have been stamped there as well.

Was that a challenger I saw in the pic a ways back? Looks like you have quite a nice little collection going for sure!

The floors in the cat sure have seen thier better days - for an Arizona car it’s a bit more ate up than I would have guessed it would be…at least you won’t be bored! ;>P

I would guess that those last 2 pics are on the top of the shock towers / firewall area. You might be able to see part of them at the inside edge of the fenders, or you might have to pull the fenders.

Why were they called “horn” cars?

'cause they make you horny baby

I dunno mate, maybe because they looked so sexy they were a chick magnet!

I found the vin no’s stamped under each of the front guards
Ive also ordered a set of workshop manuals to reduce the number a ‘learner’ questions (I hope) :wall:

Im stripping the car down atm, can anyone confirm wether the Elimimator had finned drum front (as standard) brakes or what models had disc front options.
My XA GT coupe had disc front, finned drum rear as factory standard.
I just wondering about the stopping performance of 302, 351 or 428 with drums all round?

Manual drum brakes were standard on Eliminators. Power disc brakes were optional and will be called out on a Marti report or Eminiger invoice.

Thanks Dave, yes it does say ‘power disc brakes’ on the Marti report (cost $64.80)
so dont know why anyone would throw drums back on it
Anyway, guess Ill be buying a conversion kit as Ive never had a muscle car with drums all round.

check with your local Mustang guy. I run XF brakes and spindles on my cars but they are RHD

I’m thinking because of the horn shaped stripe running up the sail panel. The Dealers unique mod/accent.

Not a bad idea, XF’s are still pretty easy to find at the wreckers and should be way cheaper than a kit.
Im beginning to understand why so many have passed on this resto as its a crazy amount of work.
So many parts have been pinched off it over the years, this is its last chance I reckon.

Don’t forget to l et me know what you need. We might have it in out parts collection. Brisbane to Melbourne freight is OK if you use e-go

Here’s a nice Boss Eliminator at the recent Melbourne ‘Aussie vs USA’ Muscle car show
