Eliminator Question

Gentlemen, I have a question:

I am writing a newspaper column and am looking for some information. When did the Cougar Eliminator come out? I read that it was in '69 but I seem to remember crawling over one that was a '68. Back in 1984 I owned a '68 cougar and was looking to replace the interior in it. I remember looking at the Eliminator for parts because the owner had managed to over torque the engine and ripped the firewall apart (or that was the story told me and the sheet metal was ripped). So 68 or 69?

69

1969 model year, produced from mid-1968

Dyno Don’s Eliminator funny car was a 67/68 Cougar. As stated above 69 is the first production model year.

Steven

It was a mid year introduction in 1969, the first scheduled build date was April 1, 1969.

Checking out the paint scheme on Dyno’s “Eliminator” provides another bit of evidence in favor of the argument the ‘E’ in GT-E stood for E-liminator.

My Eliminator had a scheduled build date of April 1, but actually was built about 2 weeks later. Many of the first cars were for Hertz. Could the delay have been from having to ship them out for sunroof fitment? Who knows. So when they actually were seen by the public may not have been until May 1969.

It does have the GT-E paint scheme for sure!
