Eliminators on the Market (April 2022)

Had the Eliminator out to Cars & Coffee the other day. Feels great to drive it again
Supply of '70 Eliminators for sale is still VERY low.

BEWARE OF SCAM LISTINGS OF ELIMINATORS FOR SALE!
Scammers are using pictures from legitimate listings (old and current) and passing them off as their car that is for sale, at prices well below market value. Always verify the car is real and the VIN is legitimate by checking with the CCOA or Eliminator Registry.
Also be sure to order your own Marti Report. Scammers have been doctoring Marti’s and changing VINs. Marti will not charge you for an invalid VIN.
Never send a deposit without confirming there is actually a real Eliminator associated with the listing.
And as always, remember that if it is too good to be true then it is probably a scam.

High Octane Classics is about 1 mile from me. I spoke to them today to let them know that they had some incorrect information on the page. They asked if I knew where they might be able to find a Boss 302 engine so they can put the car back to factory configuration. I don’t but I sent Dave Wyrwas an e-mail about it to see if he had any leads. If anyone here knows the whereabouts of an engine for sale, please give them a call. They also weren’t sure of the value if put back to Boss Eliminator specs.

Value…

Jan 2022 - 9F91G574956 - 1969 w/Boss 302, 4spd. Bright Yellow, Black Interior. Docs. Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, Lot# 1135, $90k
Oct 2019 - 9F91G582888 - 1969 w/ Boss 302, 4spd. Bright Yellow, Black Interior. Docs. Mecum Chicago, Lot# S136.1, $67.1k (incl. fees)

The Jan 2022 car is a recent comparable and a very nice restoration. The Oct 2019 car was nice, but not as nice as the Jan 2022 car (IMO), and not numbers matching.

IMO, even if they put it back to Boss specs, with the questionable sheet metal date codes on the car they’ll be lucky to get around $50k from a knowledgeable buyer. The hard part will be finding correct '69 Boss goodies to put in it.
Fortunately for them, most buyers are ignorant, don’t do their research, and don’t pay attention to anything beyond shiny paint. So they could probably get away with a '70 Boss engine. Either way, I really doubt it would be worth their time and cost to put a Boss engine back in the car. It would be a sure way to quickly narrow their profit margin.
But with a Boss engine in it, and a non-discerning buyer, maybe $60-65k?

On their website the VIN is listed as 9F9L0570308

But a picture of the VIN in the windshield shows a typical Boss 302 Cougar VIN. Just wondering if the title matches their website? If so it’s a problem.

Another '69 looking for a home.

I told Dan at High Octane they had the VIN wrong on the website. I also told them not all Eliminators were Boss Eliminators, which their description states incorrectly. He told me he’d fixed the VIN, but the page has not reflected that change. Good question on the title, though.

Thanks for keeping these posts up to date, Mike.

Looking at the overall market and the big price increases in many cars, I guess I’m surprised that the 428 Cougars haven’t jumped more. Boss cars seem to have gone up 50% and Mustangs always seem to bring higher prices, but prices for 428 Eliminators on BAT and at auction don’t seem to match. Am I being overly pessimistic?

Hi Royce,

Good informationm. Looks like High Octane is consigning it. Do they have the car on site? It would be interesting to get more clarity on the validity of the VIN - I’m not sure where to start. I guess look for fender VINs?

I would be curious to see what the shock tower apron VINs show ~ or if they indicate any tampering. A general overview of sheet metal date codes would be nice to have as well, with photos to back up findings.

Would love to bring the Red Eliminator back home to Dallas where it was sold, but no offer under 50K considered and non original engine and tranny make it an upside down project.

Folks, I am willing to go check it out but I really don’t know anything after '68 well at all and even less about Eliminators as a subset. However, if someone can tell me very specifically what to capture, I can give it the old college try. BTW, the car is on site.

Mike and others could provide better insight into where some of the sheetmetal dates are, but on my car, the fenders each have a date code on the lip that is hidden by the hood when the hood is closed. Under the fenders, behind each of the the shock towers, there should be a partial VIN stamped. Sometimes it can be seen if you unbolt the top of the fender and supposedly you can see it from the wheel well with a mirror, light and (possibly) removing the fender liner. The partial VIN would be the one that would be most interesting - it could be faked, but would be somewhat difficult.

There must be other sheetmetal that is dated that (maybe?) is claimed to be original. That would be telling.

I think Dave Wyrwas will be coming down later this week and we will go check it out.
