Eliminators on the Market (August 2014)

Been busy this past week ~ went to the WCCC open house (had a blast!), and got a few leads on some hot Eliminators. We’ll see how they pan out

These listings are combed from popular sites (CraigsList, eBay, Hemmings, CarsOnLine, Kijiji, and others). As always, if you know of or have an Eliminator for sale please feel free to add it to the list. Or if you have any details or comments about an Eliminator listed here (or elsewhere) please feel free to pass along that info.

This thread also appears on MC.net, here: http://www.mercurycougar.net/forums/showthread.php?86057-Eliminators-on-the-Market-(August-2014)

Last week I got a ton of new data for the Eliminator Production Numbers project. I’m still going through it all. Thanks Diego!

That seems cheap for that Cougar with the level it is restored too.

That’s about what Rob Celedonia’s restored car went for back in May after being marketed for a few months. It was almost identical to Carlton’s ~ color, options, non-original motor. They’re like evil twins or something
I know Rob was trying to get $65k-ish when he started, and ended up reducing his price over time, to about $55k when it sold.

Now, I can’t vouch for the “correctness” of either car as far as paint marks and whatnot. But both appear very well restored to me. But I do wonder how they would compare with the Pastel Blue car from RK Motors that sold for $75k-ish last year. That one seems to be the recent “high water mark” for boss eliminators.

I agree though, you probably couldn’t restore one for that price unless you started with a very good, complete car to begin with.

Most of the “nice driver” boss cats in the last year or so seemed to be selling / generating good interest for around $35k or so. Ones with more “needs” have bid / listed well for $25k - give or take.

Just my thoughts on it - worth about 2 cents

Thanks for the response Mike. You have more insite then anyone on the Eliminator market. My guess would have put it at $65,000 $70,000 car. Guess I’m a little out of touch on where the market is at today.

Non-factory original drivetrain could be part of what held back Rob’s car, and possibly Carlton’s car as well. I believe the Pastel Blue car did have its original factory drivetrain, which could be part of why it brought more. I know, most Boss cars are no longer sporting thier original blocks. But wouldn’t that make the ones that are worth more to people who care about those things?

I know that Rob also needed to sell his due to loss of storage, so that was probably a factor in his pricing. I’m not sure how long Carlton plans to market his car, but his latest eBay listing says “last chance”.

Color could be a factor too ~ a lot of folks want a blue car, or a green car. I have yet to hear someone say “I want a comp gold Eliminator”, LOL!
And over just the last few months there have been three nicely restored comp gold Boss Eliminators listed - Carlton’s (August), Rob’s (May), and 0F91G544281 from Nebraska (March). The Nebraska car was a Super Drag Pak car that I helped reunite the car’s original block. It had been listed for a very long time at $80k, then the owner started dropping his price. Last price I saw listed on that one was $52.9k, so I imagine that is roughly what it sold for. Link to pics: http://www.usacarads.com/detail/Used-1970-Mercury-Cougar/fZfZZfhfIaahUUZQhXZa.html
