Anyone have a heads up removing th e emergency brake handle on a '67 staandard? Have th ereplacement, but not certain of the removal tactic for the old one, don’t want to ruin anything. Looks like a pin holds the handle in place, not sure how to remove… Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!
Brad
Yes it is just a small roll pin.Take a small punch and push the roll pin out and pull the handle off.
FYI If you drive a lot: The Mustang parts vendors sell a billet aluminum version of the handle that looks pretty much stock and is millions of times stronger than the plastic repops which break easily in daily use.
If my memory serves right, the pin doesn’t drive all the way through, just drive it far enough in to let the handle pull off, and then remove the pin.
Thanks for the assistance, everybody. apppreciate it.
Another tip, if you’re going to replace the broken handle with another of the plastic ones: before you install the handle, drill a hole on the opposite side of the existing one in new handle in the same size. That way, when you need to replace it (and you will!), you can push the pin all the way through the shaft to remove the broken handle. I’ve been doing this for years and it makes the removal process much easier.
