I have a 67 base model Cougar, with factory A/C. There is a hole in my lower dash between the e-brake handle and the left of the rest of the dashboard.
My usual sources of information have no info on what this light looks like, or Ford part numbers for bezel, or anything else. It is clear a plastic bezel has to push through the metal dash lower panel, then the bulb socket clips into it.
Does anyone have information about the particular indicator light. I am told it is rare.
Jay Leno’s Garage always talking about finding THAT GUY that knows everything about a particular car. Does anyone have info about a true expert on all things 67 Cougar?
WCCC # 27406, shows out of stock. If so it’s because of the switch itself, we have lots of lights and wire harness’s. Also note it uses a flashing bulb #30991. I will ck for the assembly and post tomorrow morning.
Yes, I tried to save one this morning, have two bad switches and about 12 lights with harness. One switch I disassembled and checked and cleaned and then reassembled but the spring is not strong enough to push the plunger all the way out. The second one is corroded so bad I can’t get it apart. And the repro switches are not really close to reproduction, you have to cut up your wiring and put an additional ground wire on it. It’s just a push to dis- connect switch and does not ground thru the housing.
The NOS one shows it as a kit, and looks to have an instruction sheet. I assume this was a dealer option? Richard or anyone do you have a copy of the instructions to share. The out of stock kit description at WCCC spells out wiring to the ignition switch. In the wanted add it almost appears like the fused connector is in the ground side with an eyelet connector on it? There is another WCCC description picture that don’t even show the eyelet. The NOS one on Ebay looks to have all male bullet connectors, no eyelet (unless hidden)
I will be looking to install one of these, and need to know where to locate the hole and where wiring goes.
Could have been a dealer option I guess but the dash light was part of the convenience group or visual check panel. If you had this you also had door ajar, and low fuel. The harness has two connectors one is an eyelet goes to the ignition switch and has an inline fuse then has a bullet connector that plugs into the brake switch itself. I don’t have a install diagram but it is pretty simple, it just attaches to the shaft of the brake handle and the light goes behind the dash and the lens connects like a bulb (push and turn). My daughters car had one and none of the other lights so probably was a dealer option.
Oh by the way 68 lights are wired different than the 67 for standards. The one on Ebay is for a 68 and will need to be modified to work on your 67. 67 uses the eyelet to the ign switch and 68 uses the bullet to the accessories plug.
Thanks Richard. The wiring should be easy enough to figure. I will have to fabricate somewhat of a harness. Missing the half of the fuse holder and yellow bullet that goes to the switch. I will just need to find out hole location like ‘ls4wires’ mentions above. Or I may rather than drill a hole in my dash just make a bracket to place it under the dash by the brake handle. I believe I’ve seen the Mustang use that setup?
I think after doing more research a light installed under dash rather than in console would have either been dealer added, or owner added. The Mustang thing I was thinking was a square seat belt warning light.
The light I have and the ebay kit are not the correct red light for the convenience group.
Yes Royce the switches are the same, harness is the difference sorry if I confused anyone. And again correct the ebay listing is not for the convenience group.
Good news, WCCC will be listing both the 67 and the 68 harness’s and the red lens and spring assembly today or tomorrow. The harness will be complete with the lens and the correct flashing bulbs.
