Looks good. I bet it was a fun drive for you after all of the work you completed to get your Cougars engine bay to this point.
Steven
Nice transformation. I’ve enjoyed watching your progress.
At the risk of breaking your stones, I would advise that you put two “budget friendly” things on the “to do” list:
1 - buy new fender bolts & swap them in 1 at a time.
2 - buy an “Autolite” topper for your battery.
Dan,
A couple comments for you. I’d like to see you replace the fuel pump to carb line and get rid of that plastic filter (which is in backwards BTW). Extra filtering is always good but the carb has one already. Now, since you have had some troubles with the PS stuff, I would like to suggest reworking the two cylinder to chassis lines (if you have not already) so you do not have further troubles. Looks like they are en-twisted. Here is a picture of how they should be routed:
And there is a hose clamp that goes around the control valve just past the clamp which fixes the hoses to the control valve.
Regards,
Robert
Very nice Dan lots of improvements! If you continue to have cooling issues you need to take a look at replacing that radiator and fan shroud. I don’t know what it is out of, but it really doesn’t fit in your Cougar very well which could be causing your idle cooling issues. On the gas filter, you can always replace it with an aluminum bodied one which is much safer. hate to see you have a fire after all that work ![]()
It looks great Dan! But “the end”? I hope to see more projects from you in the future! ![]()
Thank you gents for all the nice words and valuable comments.
Yeah it was really fun to drive it again yesteray, after such a long winter and knwoing the engine was all clean, felt like the whole car was all brand new!!
Thanks Robert for pic of the correct PS hoses routing, I had already de-twisted them half way i.e. switched pressure and return hoses in the double eye neck, in order to get them to work well without exerting excesssive stress on that neck. So I know now that l have another half to do… whenever I have time (since it works well as is but I will prefer it correct).
I also take good note of the hazard associated with the fuel filter. This will be corrected promptly.
New fender bolts… well I thought of it and I still do, but on the other hand this “defect” fits with the nature of the car which is to be a driver, a good looking driver yeah, but still just a driver. W’ll see.
Of course “The End” is attached only to this thread and I will get onto something else later on.
