Hey kids. I put a new engine pan on my 70 351C a year ago and it leaks around one of the bolts. I tried tightening it but no luck.
Pan is removed and I’m ready to re-install it with new gaskets. What do y’alls use for gasket sealer and do you coat both sides. I use Versa Chem Prime sealant type 3. I’ve not had issues with it in the past. I try to stay away from silicone.
I like to use the fel pro 1-piece gasket. No silicone or sealer needed except for the front and rear sections. Easier to install with the holding pins provided. I have one on my 302 and used them in the past on my 351 in my bronco. Always work great.
Just to add a differing opinion, I used grey RTV to seal the oil pan on my 4 banger Race Motor, Mitsubishi never put a gasket on from the factory, Just RTV. Never had leakage from the oil pan. Just my $.02
I almost installed mine without any sealer but I remembered on my bronco I couldn’t get one to not leak without it so since then have always added just a little bit of grey diesel spec silicone.
Just a thought be for you put it on, is to make sure the the bolt holes haven’t deformed and sit flush with the engine sides.
Give them all a tap with the hammer to reseat the holes.
This may have caused your leaks in the begining.
Thanks for all of the replies. I ended up going with Royce’s recommendation on using the Right Stuff. No gasket on the sides. Used the gaskets on the front and rear caps though. Worked perfectly and no leaks. Thanks again.
