Anyone know what it was trying to get? You would think if it was alive the thing would have went under water. Eagles, as far as I know, do not eat anything dead, They are not, anything like their cousin the Vaulter, to eat dead things.
My guess, a fish it had originally managed to stun…but that’s just a guess.
It was a nutria a hunter had shot but it got away into the water and died. From what I understand, it had recently died, so the eagle may have been scoping it out for a while as it got away.
That would make sense.
Eagles absolutely do eat dead things. I nearly hit one that was chowing on road kill.
Im sure there is the exception, They do prefer live over dead. With the vaulter, there is no feathers on it’s head, leaving it able to put it’s head in a carcass and pull out with no problems. An eagle can’t, the feathers would stop it from pulling out easy enough. Like I said, Im sure there are times they will eat something that has recently died.
