Fortunately, No Cougars in this fire. Garage at a lake house burnt across the road from a coworker house. How many expensive toys can you ID??
Jeep type vehicle, Harley/Hog type cycle, and what looks to be a Cobra roll bar…
You only missed one.
Modified Jeep.
Two Harley fat boys
ZO6 vette
Original 68 Shelby Cobra
Did they determine what started the fire?
They know what corner of the garage the fire started at. No combustible liquids were detected and the last he heard it was assumed it was electrical. But, they are still investigating.
Ouch. That isn’t going to buff right out.
So, ratting myself out here. Over the winter, I was working on finishing a trailer project I’d been working on. Long story short, I was cutting some sheet steel with my grinder and a cutoff wheel, and NOT paying attention to where the sparks were flying. Well, I didn’t have any fuel cans anywhere nearby, but, I DID have a box full of Estes rocket motors, mainly C’s, several D’s, and I even had three F size ones…know how when the shuttle launches, they show the shower of sparks directed at the engine nozzles??? Yeah, that’s to light it…same theory with my box of motors. Out of thirty some motors, about 18 of them lit off, either directly out their nozzles, or via burn-through of the casings. I ended up pulling the hissing/burning/flame throwing box off the shelf it was on with a towel I had somewhat close at hand, and smothered it out, eventually. I got away with some scorched drywall, and two of the boys rockets, and one of mine from my youth, will never fly again.
Point is, with the kind of work we’re all doing in our shops/garages, we should have a plan in case something happens. In my case, I got EXTREMELY lucky that none of the motors went airborne, and into either the fuel can rack, or, into the Heap. I HAVE an extinguisher out there…unfortunately, it was in the Heap, UNDER a cover…DOH. That has been remedied. It CAN happen…be ready. I danced around saying bad words that time…next time(hopefully there won’t be one), I hopefully will be calmer and more prepared.
End of today’s self-ratting and safety lesson.
Holy chit T3…two things come to mind: A: glad it wasn’t worse…and B: wish there was a video of you dealing with that (which we could laugh at because of A:)
…I have a few of those thing myself, leftover from cub scout rocket day a few years back…wondering the best way dispose of them…
Yeah, I didn’t start laughing for a few days…but I freely laugh at myself now.(and I’m glad it wasn’t worse also…AND that there is NO video…).
Should have seen the smoke rolling out of the shop when I opened the overheads…Cheech and Chong would have been impressed.
Soak in water until the insides dissolve, or, use them! I’d had most of these for around 10 years or so, and they still lit off just fine…
