Exploring peculiar linguistics of Floridian nomenclature

As previously posted, having finally regained some confidence in the dependability of The Montane Cat (if you haven’t seen the “history”: Introduction....and introductory woes ) wife and homely son and I have decided to become more visible in our immediate locale, and thought there may be some interest in the community, if for no other reason, than to explore some of the most oddly named sites in North Central Florida (and possibly beyond as we increase in boldness).

Today it was our second attempt at seeking “where the classics are”. First attempt was Hernando (nothing special in the name) but only one other attendee with a ‘64 Comet Caliente convertible at Niko’s Bar. This jaunt was much more satisfying. Although I didn’t physically count, my guesstimate was at least 50 cars rallying in West Marine’s parking lot on Highway 19 in Crystal River (pictures to follow, but another benign name). Prior to the Rally we had lunch at the Seagrass Tiki Bar in HOMOSASSA. Not as odd as “Chassahowitzka” or “Weeki-Wachee”, but those are a little further down the gulf: we may get there later. Anyway, good day, nice cars, social people, good eats. And with a working fuel gauge I knew how much gas I was using!

…the wait is over!

Lunch - feels like winter!

Funny, that red cougar shows up in every shot! There was a white ‘69 there also.

Me too, obviously: someone offered to trade their ‘62 Tbird for him, but I didn’t bite.

Incidentally, this is Bull’s first ride in the Cougar (mainly because I have the back seat out for brace repair). It is now likely his favorite of the three vehicles because there’s no console to get in his way!

Could I get a beer with that please!?

American Bulldog?

Good eye - mix dad was American Bulldog & Cane Corso, mom was a Catahoula

Therefore, after two weeks of shut-down with the dash project, it was high time for a venture. Today we decided to leave Homely Son home and take a little respite to the East side of the Withlacochee to scenic Okahumpka Florida, across the Palatlakaha River, and down to Yalaha! (Is that enough names for one road trip?). Yalaha is usually called “Yalaha Bakery”, but that does it a dis-service. It is an eclectic environ consisting of a beer garden with music, delicatessen, and informal restaurant - WITH a bakery. Would have liked to capture more shots while driving, but that’s impractical for me, and challenging for the Madame, but here are some “while we’re here” shots to give you an idea.

Welcome to Yalaha - no she is not there permanently, that’s my contribution to the venue.

German inspired deli; with a lunch order counter…

…and impressive menu.

To take out to the beer garden…

…and murder your lunch!

And, if you’ve got room left, and can make a decision - an over the top dessert bar! So gross!

Add-on feature, there’s a “Craft Distillery” just across the field for your final “unwind”.

Proof that the car made it there:

Yeah, it might be time for another bath, eh?
