factory paint marking

Just wondering where to find the paint for the marking on drive shaft springs etc? To replacate teh factory.

Once you have restored the driveline , springs and such back to bare steel with all the machined areas and heat weld looks but before you add the protective oils or films you can use any quality gloss enamel solvent based paints to reproduce the factory markings. Then apply the oil/film

You just need to guess on how much you will need (figure your estimate x2) so often things like small jars of model enamel will not be enough to do the job. You will often need to mix two or more colors to replicate the original colors though some colors can be used as they are but about 50% they will not be close. Because of this mix more than you think you will need since if your run out part way (a driveline for example) though the mark your next batch will not likely match the first. In some cases I purchase pints or even rattle cans to get the colors and amounts I need for one or more jobs.

Hopefully you took good pictures of your original marks and not copying things you’ve found or seen on other peoples cars. Understand that markings will different from year to year, plant to plant and car to car depending on a number of variables. Also understand that the paint color is only one small part of the process as how the mark was applied, location and even size come into consideration. Application could brush swipe, daub or spray for example. Also other products were used for marking also so not all used paint

Hope this helps and good luck with the project
