FCat for sale in MA $2500

Folks,

I have my eye on an XR-7 GT so I’ve decided to sell the one I recently bought. I’m not looking to make any money on it (in fact, I’ll lose a couple of hundred). I paid $2500.00 for it and that’s my selling price.

The Cougar is a '68 F-code XR-7 with tilt/tilt-away (not working since the door jamb button and vacuum reservoir are both missing), power steering, power disc brakes, and full console. It will need a small amount of rust repair in the trunk, but will need a full passenger side floor and at least an outer wheelhouse on the passenger side. The quarters and fenders are good, the trunk drop-offs are good, and the frame rails are good. So are the torque boxes and outer rocker panels.

The fenders and grille have been removed, but they will come with the car and are in good shape, although the headlight bucket on the passenger side has a crack in it. Since the chrome bars are still nice, they can be relocated to a new bucket assembly.

The previous owner was planning an alternator upgrade, so the harness to the alternator was cut and the original alternator is missing. We did get the car running briefly today, but it has electrical gremlins that required some hot-wiring. The gas tank is solid but the fuel is no good, so the tank needs to be replaced or flushed and cleaned. There is a new Holley already installed and we were able to start it with that carb in place.

The parts that came with the car include a chin spoiler, a rear wing, and a full exhaust system from MU. Those will go with the car once again.

I have cleaned the interior and it is in decent driver condition. The dash pad is slightly warped up on the driver side but not so much that it would have to be changed right away. The driver seat has a tear in the side of the seat back and both front seats have some seam wear, but no separation, on the seat surface inserts.

The vinyl top cleaned up nicely and the cowl tested good when we poured a bucket of water down each side.

The right buyer for this car is someone who is willing and able to trade sweat equity in order to save on up-front purchase price. If you would need to pay someone to restore this car for (in other words, like me), this is not the car for you.

It does have a new front end and some new power steering hoses, but the pump is not installed. All brackets are there, however, for both the pump and the alternator. The fenders are clean, with no rust and no dents. The quarter panels are nice. The rocker moldings are with the car and appear to be in decent shape. All of the grille pieces are still present, although they also have been removed. The bumpers are good cores and might even be able to polish up sufficient for driver duty.

Chris, I haven’t received that e-mail yet. Thanks for all your help on this and I’ll let you know if I need the alternator. The new owner may want to proceed with the upgrade and I have that alternator to pass along.

The eBay auction ended without a sale, so I will be parting the car out unless it sells by 11/16. I’m on vacation starting that date so it’s a good time to start taking the car apart. If I do part it, I’m going to keep the vinyl top trim pieces for B3Cat, but everything else from a complete '68 XR-7 will be available. That may prove to be the only way to get my money back out of it.

He was interested but he wants a driver and is trying to close a deal on one in AZ.

I’d be interested in the chin spoiler, rear wing, hood and scoop, and potentially the power steering box, pump, and control valve, if they’re known to work and not require rebuild.

Not sure about the hood, shipping it might be prohibitively expensive. But at the right total cost, I’d want it for sure.
