Hey guys. So I might have the opportunity to pick up a 69 XR7 convertible which has much better fenders and rear quarters then what I have. My question is will those fit my coupe? I guess it sounds kinda like a dumb question but I have to ask not knowing. The rear quarters just look different probably due to the fact there’s no roof above them. Now if there is minor modifications that can be done then I will pick it up. I’d imagine the front fenders are identical. Thanks for any feedback guys and enjoy.
Convertible/coup…I’d pick the convertible to restore, unless it’s too far gone on the underside, but then I would think the quarters and fenders would be bad as well. I would think they would be the same otherwise.
Quarters ARE different between coupe and convertible. There’s been an nos quarter on feebay for a while.
I’m the opposite I do not like the convertible look, yeah I love the idea of having the top down and cruising on a hot day for sure. I just don’t get the muscle car feel like when I look at a hardtop compared to the convertible, but that’s just me. Thanks for the info gents.
The top of the rear quarter on a convertible is wider than the hardtop quarter. I found this out the hard way when I tried to use a hardtop quarter on my 69 convertible. I ended up grafting it in near the side body line and just using the side of the hardtop quarter.
The front fenders are the same for both coupe and convertible. The rear quarter panels are different however you could use areas of the convertible quarters that are below the upper body line as patch panels on a coupe.

Like randy said the front fenders are all the same for 69. The convertible 1/4s are hard to come by as not many were built. IIRC the front edge by the doors bow in as the hardtop ones don’t. And the top portion on the convertibles for 69 and 70 are a lot wider because there is no C pillar and roof.
thanks

p.s. you can use the sections of the vert 1/4s for patch panels for your car as mentioned and sell the rest of the car and make money from it…
Randy&Pat thanks for the info guys. Hope I can land the car!!
In case you didn’t get it and still need rear quarters
Maine69find,
Not sure if you ever got the convertible but I have a pair of 69 coupe rear quarters that I would be interested in trading for a pair of convertible rear quarters.

Antonio
Hey Maine69
How`d you make out with the convertible quarter situation???
thanks

Sorry Dropcat on very late reply, yeah no go on convertible. As of now I will stick with patch panels from Johns Cougars. Always looking for something so any info is appreciated
Thanks
