I received a request for information through the Cascade Cougar Club Facebook page regarding a giant fibreglass Cougar at a Lincoln Mercury dealership in Raleigh, NC. His original post is below.
If anyone has any info on this please post a reply and I will let him know.
I’m looking into the history of a giant fiberglass cougar (as in cat) that used to be on top of the Leith Lincoln Mercury dealership in Raleigh, NC. I’ve heard they were produced by (or for Mercury) as part of an advertising campaign. I can’t find anything about that campaign (such as when it ran) but figured if anyone would know a bunch of Mercury Cougar fans would. Anything you could tell me would help. Thanks! Jeff DeWitt
giant? how big I wonder?
funny thing is I was just thinking/wishing I took up the offer I had many years ago, the owner of Bob Sight L/M (Kansas city) offered to give me the showroom Cougar it was about 5 foot long and 3 foot tall. (my mom worked there as office manager) I just had no place to put something that big, but it was very cool looking.
Brian Aust has one of those Cougars. It’s pretty big.
Jeff, do you, or anyone else, have a picture they can send to me to pass along?
I don’t, Scott but I’m sure Brian can provide you with one.
Thanks guys. I’ll send the photo and see if this rings a bell.
So the guy got back to me and says it is different from Brian’s Cougar, then sent a link from a local paper’s story on it (with a picture of the cat).

That is a big Cougar. I’d love to see a picture of it on a Lincoln Mercury dealership from back in the day. That would be cool.
