Since I was a kid I have wanted a 1967-70 Cougar, now I finally have one. I pulled this 1970 351 automatic car up out of the mud and onto my trailer.
Mostly a pile of fine American rust with some bondo but she’s all mine! Drive train is at least all there, floor boards and interior have become one with nature but I couldn’t be happier! Getting her back on the road will be a great way to teach my son to hold a flashlight as well as learn all the cuss words.
Wow! Ambitious! Where are you located? I buy and part out cougars all the time. I have two cars, better than that, and cheap. One 69 std convertible and one 70 XR7 coupe. Would you consider a better starting point?? These cars are incredibly hard to restore.
Located in Oklahoma, Not particularly interested in selling. Would like a better starting place but the price on rollers with decent sheet metal has been obscene whenever I looked.
I went to look at two galaxies and an LTD and this was also there. I got it added to that deal. Will be cleaning this up and shoving it in the barn while I work on the galaxy but figured I might as well start accumulating parts and patch panels for this one as well. If i find a better one before I get the galaxy done great, if not well at least I own one now.
I’m in Charlotte NC, so probably a little far to go. I part out cars all the time and then see people trying to restore much worse. I currently have a solid 69 convertible for just under $4k.
Location location location, just like real estate. Would cost me $2000 and 3 days just to come look with a trailer. Suddenly that good deal on a convertible isn’t so good besides I don’t do new balance and jean shorts, strictly a hard top guy.
Also that is her worst side, for what I want to do it’s going to require frame work anyway.
Welcome abord. You do have your work cut out on that one. But anything can be restored. I’m doing one now myself.
What year Galaxies did you find? I’ve had a few.
65 352 manual galaxy complete, 66 390 automatic Ltd, complete minus hood, boat anchored engine, 66 428galaxy missing front clip drivers door and drive train. All two doors, reading the vin on the 428 car was rough.
One I had was a P code 390 LTD 2 door hard top. Another full size ford product I had was a Mercury Colony Park wagon with s 390 2V with a factory 4 speed. Reall wish I had kept that one.
You’ve got my huge respect for such a project. In my younger years I had the zeal, just not the time. Now I have the time, not quite the enthusiasm! Best of luck
