First and second year build months

I have a 67 xr7.
Looking at the VIN decoder my cars build date shows 27U which means the 27th of the second year month of July.
Why is there a first and second year month.
What the chart says…
“The numberic part of the code is the day of the month in which the car was scheduled to be assembled. The letter inidcates the month in which the car was scheduled to be assembled as shown in the “First Year Month” column of the chart below. If production extended into a second year, the month of scheduled manufacture was indicated by a code from “second Year Month” column.”
Does this mean my car was actually built in 1968?

No, it means your car was built in July 1967. Ford would use G to denote a July early production date, and U to denote a July late production date to avoid confusion. My '68 standard has a 17U build date, which means it was scheduled to be built on July 17, 1968, not July 17, 1967. I can also tell by the consecutive unit number in the VIN that it is a very late production car. Hope this helps.

Ok. I feel better knowing it was build in 1967 haha. I knew it was. But just wanted to clear that up.
So if it was built earlier maybe the first half of July it would have been “G”?
Thanks for your help.

A letter “G” on a '67 would of meant July 1966. An example of a '67 Cougar with a G in the date code would be Cougar #1 with a SCHEDULED build date of 04G for July 4th, 1966. John

Thanks. I fully understand now!
