First car show

Over the weekend I put my car in a local car show as “under construction” with a couple of my buddies. We weren’t planning on winning any awards or anything just thought it would be fun to hang out around cars all day and BBQ and what not. The cougar actually got A LOT of attention especially for the condition it’s in. People seem to forget about cougars and when they see one you can tell they are walkin down memory lane in their heads haha. A lot of people were asking me questions and taking pictures of the motor and even the rough interior. Felt pretty good because I was not expecting that good of a reaction out of people. Not many people that actually know cars have stopped to admire my car like that. Can’t wait to see the attention I will get when the car is completely done… or at least painted. Usually just someone who thinks it’s cool because it’s old and not for what it actually is. There was another cougar out there too. It was a 68 standard 302 c4 unrestored and the paint was in rough shape but the interior wasn’t that bad. Red with white vynil top and red interor. Center consol with the cubby instead of a clock. Mine origionally came with a clock and is a 67 so mines a little more rare. He took home 3rd place in the mercury category but probably because there was only 3 mercurys in the category haha.
Anyway was a lot of fun.

Most of the pics of my cars progress over the years is on that photobucket account feel free to check em out at this link

Glad to hear you had a good time. Thats what car shows are all about. Some people get uptight if they don’t win a trophy (it’s nice to win), for me it’s about enjoying family, friends and the cars. Seeing others enjoy your ride is pretty cool also.

Just returned from the first car show/cruise night. Tonights temp was easily 80 degrees and we are still 2 months away from the official start of this show. Well the weather has been so great the sponsers just said via an e-mail that if you wanted to come out with your classic cars you were more than welcome. So this gave me the perfect chance to bring my cat out to show off all the improvements I did over the winter. There were probably 40 plus cars and it was great to see the guys again. The best part was the drive home after dark because I got to check out how well the new headlight switch improved the dash lighting (huge improvement) and the new halogen low beams with the relay kit installed. What a pleasure to actually see the road at night! What a great start to the new show season!

I can’t say what it is, but my cars always seem to really run great when driving home after a show…

I missed a big show this past weekend in Myrtle Beach. It was Thursday through Saturday and had about 2800- 3000 cars and trucks. Some friends went and one told me that they only saw two Cougars. One of my Fire Cheifs bought a 1967 El Camino SS 4 speed while he was there, so now he has a stable mate to go with his 1953 Ford truck. I can’t wait to hit the shows this season.

Bill I get what you mean about driving home after a show. I think it’s all about enjoying the family, friends and the cars. On the way home it all comes together.
