Hi
While changing the carpet, i found some rot in the rear. I knew there was rust but was hoping only surface rust, sadly it is rot and i poked some holes with my finger
I’m planning to cut and replace however it is the area behind the rear torque box and i will have to separate the floor from the rear frame rail - not on a large section, maybe 6-8in long.
I’m assuming it will (somewhat) impact the structural strength of the car, probably not much, but i’m wondering what’s the best way to support the car while doing the repair ? is it better to leave it on the ground, or should it be on jacks, and if yes, jacked on the rear pinch welds, or on the rear axle ? trying to minimize the stress on that area while it is weakened.
Maybe i’m overthinking it, the car probably wont fold in half while i do that, but rather be careful. Generally there is very little rust on the car so it’s pretty solid
You should be able to do that repair with the car sitting on the tires. Or on jack stands. You’re not going to be replacing a large section.
