FMX Dipstick tube removal..

After putting a new shifter seal and O ring in my FMX I started to put a new O ring on my filler tube. Now I realize that I have to drop the transmission to jimmy the tube out because the firewall restricts removal.
My question is how far down does it have to drop. Can I get enough room to pull the tube out by removing the transmission crossmember and do it without unhooking the driveline too? It looks like I can drop it about 3” before the tail shaft would rest on my exhaust crossover pipe. Really don’t want to pull the exhaust or driveline or put undue stress on the motor mounts. It’s a non-air ‘69 XR7.
I’m looking for the lazy man least labor intensive approach.
(YouTube really let me down on this one). Thanks.

I have had mine out before without droping anything. should just pull out.

Thanks Randy but no way mine just comes out. Mustang sites say the FMX tranny in a 69 Mustang has to be dropped. I’m just trying to find how intensive the job is.

When I was removing the FMX from my '70 for its future career as a boat anchor :sunglasses: I remember I had to wait to pull the fill tube until the rear of the trans had been lowered a couple of inches. You should be able to get it out without pulling everything.

I replaced my o-ring without dropping the tranny. No problem just unbolt the one bell house bolt then pulled straight out
