Hi
Just had the FMX out to fix leaking seals. There are some conflicting info about the pan capacity - 4 or 5 US quarts
Is Mark Piechowski still around so can get the correct answer and buy the right amount of liquid gold
Thanks

What is the transmission fluid capacity for a ford FMX …
https://www.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_transmission_fluid_capacity_for_a_ford_FMX…
Ford C4 Automatic Transmission refill capacity (approx): * C4 / 302 c.i. = 9 US quarts * C4 / 351 c.i. = 10.25 US quarts * C6 = 12.5 US quarts * FMX = 11.0 US quarts Use Ford “Type F” fluid Source…
11 qts. if dry, if fluid still in converter and in upper trans., then start with 4 qts. start engine check fluid and add until checks between low and full, check again when hot.
Guess that’s why some say 4 qts and some say 5 qts
I have an ulterior motive in that 5qts is 4.7litres and Type F comes in 4 litre containers
Any hints on checking level? When the engine and transmission are hot the fluid is water thin and doesn’t show very well on the dip stick especially if you have used the tube to add some fluid and residual in the tube transfers to the dip stick. Would running the engine for a few minutes to assure the torque converter is full be good enough? Also once you get to the proper fill level a little more fluid seems to raise the level very quickly. I’ve pumped excess fluid out too many times.
Sitting level,up to operating temperature.Parking brake on,run through all gears 3-4 times. Normal level is halfway between ADD & FULL to allow for normal expansion of trans fluid when operating.Use Type “F” or direct replacement such as Amsoil’s Super Shift ,a full synthetic that’s not affected by heat, the #1 enemy of automatics. It’s expensive but will last forever in a hobby car.
