FMX Kick Down rod/cable install

Hi All,

Sorta a newbie to cougars and could use some help on this weekend project. I have a 73 vert with an FMX transmission but someone dropped a 1968 302 in it and I noticed there is no kick down rod installed. I purchased a rod from WCCC for a 73 and it fits but is tight and I know how the rod (thinking about using a Ford cable kit) that fits from the carb to the kick down on the tranny but the part I am confused on is if there is another connection from where it connects on the tranny to another spot on the tranny? I have seen pic/videos that has a connection from the carb to tranny (rod or cable) then there seems to be another cable from some point on the tranny to another point on the tranny (I think it goes from the kick down to a gear selector) anyways if anyone has clear pics, diagrams (I have the manual), or videos of the connections from the carb to the tranny and then anything that gets connected from that point to any other point on the tranny I would appreciate the help

The Cables work a lot differently than the Rod.
The Rod has one connection to the tranny. the front of the lever on the Drivers side.

I don’t know if Ford ever did a 302 and a FMX in anything. But I would think a rod for a 1969 through 1973 Mustang with a 302 and a C-4 would be as close as you could get and should work better then what you have now.

I have a 302W and FMX in my 69. Uses the factory kickdown rod.
