This is a solid running car. The only thing that I haven’t done to it is re-build the 351C-2V engine. While it has gone through extensive repairs to put it back on the road running safe, it really could use a full on rebuild of this great engine; its old and tired. The great news is, when repairing a leaking head gasket, the heads were removed and found to be straight and without cracks, so there is a solid foundation for a rebuild.

Cosmetically, there are a few dings surrounding the car and a couple of larger ones on the rear quarters, but nothing larger than 5” in diameter. There used to be a vinyl top, which was removed and when the car repainted, the rust bubbles were not really repaired. There are a couple rust spots on the lower quarters as well.

The interior has been sprayed over the original brown and white and is in need of some help. The rear seat needs replaced, the front seats are OK, but they could stand to be restuffed and the dash pad is a little worn. Finally, the headliner has a couple of holes and tears, but is still in tact.

This was a great high school car for my kid. He was able to be the one kid in the school that wasn’t driving a compact Asian or an SUV…everyone knew who’s car his was. One thing he and I both heard with this car was…‘you sure don’t see those on the road anymore.’ And you don’t. Step in, fire it up and drive it away…and people will notice you in this bright red 73 Mercury Cougar.

although the pictures don’t show it, the car does come with a console. My son didn’t like it, so we removed it

I like it.
How is the underside.

I’ve tried to get pictures of the underside…but without a rack, the quality of the pictures are brutal. I can try and get something next week if you need it.
Originally a Washington DC DSO car…so there is rust, but its limited. This car had its underside sprayed with the rubberized undercoat when it was new, so some of the worst of that has been avoided over the years…hence its survival for this long.
As for everything running, it all runs smoothly. The rear springs are a little droopy and could use replacing…but the car drives very well and straight.

Thank goodness for mechanic friends…borrowed his rack for 5 minutes and shot some pictures. Here are a couple I took…the rest are in the same photo album I linked to in the original article. Zonerama: Free online gallery
