So I’m getting Oh So Close to being able to drive my Cat.
I’ve got the exhaust installed, tips on the way and getting a temp rear view mirror.
Still need to figure out why my electric fans won’t kick on and now the sequentials aren’t working.
I looked at the troubleshooter and dove in. Brake lights work but when I engage the turn signal it is a solid light, no blink. Opened up the trunk and looked at the unit and was about to give up when I accidently touched the wire going to the silver cylinder and got a blink but it stopped. I fiddled with it a bit more and it started to cycle but very, and I mean VERY, slowly.
Any fixes for it or should I just buy the solid state unit from WCCC?
I’d bet your motor in the box is just gummed up. The original lubricant did a nice job, but cleaning it up, and using some new white lithium grease on the gears, and some 3-in-1 Dry Lubricant spray will dissolve the old goo in the motor, and help free it up (without conductive residue). Do not use graphite dry lubricant in there.
While you have the box open, clean those contacts too, but be careful not to bend them. It’ll work for another 57 years or so.
There are real differences by model year. I went with the WCCC solid state unit on my '70. It works great and the LED lights are soooo much brighter. It’s nice to have brake lights that are very noticeable even in bright sunlight.
I drove mine with no blinkers for a bit. Get the solid state box if you can, they’re amazing! I held onto my original sequential parts if you want to throw a few bucks at them, whatever you think is fair. The motor works great! It’s just that only 2 lights strobe. See you at the car meets!
Open the box carefully. Inside, use white lithium grease on the gears after you clean them up with a shop rag. I like 3-in-1 Dry Lubricant for the motor shaft itself (don’t disassemble the motor, just soak and spin it)
